Favouritism and Mercy

Isobel Lin did a great talk at Equip on Favouritism and Mercy from James 2:1-13 It is something (if we are honest, that we ALL do) 'but favouritism and faith are immiscible' (they can't be mixed). James 2:1 says "My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favouritism", not 'maybe sometimes you can' or 'if this person behaves like this etc etc I can'. It says "DON'T SHOW FAVOURITISM". Isobel Lin said 'it can't be part of the Christian life, she even suggested if you have faith you shouldn't show favouritism and if you show favouritism maybe you don't have faith'
Our Lord and God Jesus Christ does not show favouritism at all he goes much further, he shows undeserved Mercy. And this is what we are also called to do, if we are to be more like Christ then we are to also show mercy to our Christian brothers and sisters but it doesn't end there, we are to show mercy to EVERYONE at ALL times. If we are not doing this then Isobel suggests we are breaking the law to "love our neighbours as ourselves". It is not our place to judge it is God's place and his judgement is just and fair, infact it goes beyond what is fair, he shows mercy.

Here are some of the things that were suggested, I am convicted by these and am going to try to be proactive in this, might I suggest you also think about these ideas too.

1. Be deliberate and intentional - Plan to show mercy, look for opportunities to show mercy and DO IT.
2. Count the Cost - Meet your neighbours needs, this might mean putting your needs second.
3. Don't let feelings lead - Let mercy lead.

A great motivator for the above is to know that God showed his mercy by sending his one and only son to die for us - it was undeserved and very merciful, lets encourage one another to be more like Jesus and show mercy.

Would we be found Guilty?

I went along to the Equip Women's conference on Saturday and found it both encouraging and challenging. I love going to these events where you are surrounded by like-minded women all there to be challenged by God's word who desire to be shaped into the image of Christ.

I am going to write more about what I learned but wanted to share one thing for now. During one of the talks by Carmelina Read she asked this question:

If you were in a court charged with being a Christian would they find enough evidence to convict you??

If they played a video of our lives would our words, actions and deeds convict us, if they had a silent video of our lives would we still be convicted. Would there be proof that faith in our lives is alive??

This was a great big challenge for me and for us all. Would you be charged??

Finding Nemo

AB has a blog now Unobscurantus and he asked if there was anything about Finding Nemo in my blog - lo and behold there isn't. Shock Horror.

I love Nemo its one of my all time favorites, its such a cute little movie. In fact I have had two Nemo parties in the past, one in London and one in Sydney where we had heaps of girls over for Nemo and Chips, Nemo cake, a Nemo quiz and of course we watched the movie. Twas so much fun.

Anyhoo, now I can say "Yes I have mentioned Nemo on my blog". Hoorah!

It's my birthday and I will play with my football if I want too ":)

Thanks for the title Ruth :)
So today is my birthday and I had a very special time last night which was lovely. SP asked me to get the bus home as he had a "meeting"... So I got the bus home, it was wet and I had to stand up all the way! - yes you may all play your violins now..
I got home and the bolt was unlocked SP had already got home, he had ironed my clothes for me to wear, had the heaters on - yipee and told me to have a shower as we were going out for dinner.
We went to this really lovely restaurant on Freshwater Beach called Pilu, yummy food and great wine. I also watched some Creature Comforts before we left and when we got back, because I love that show!!
So you might ask why this Blog title is "It's my birthday and I will play with my football if I want too" :)
One of my birthday presents from SP was a football (soccer ball to you Aussies) and so I was kicking it around in the unit, and then BANG BANG BANG BANG from the neighbours below. Oopsey! but I was excited about getting a football AND it was my birthday night..

Chicken or the Egg?

Which did come first?

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to :(

I am not having a party this year and I am not crying, though the age I reach tomorrow is creeping that bit closer to 30 so maybe I should be? Then I will most certainly be having a party, 30 is definately a party year I think..
I normally get heaps excited about birthdays, even now that I have had so many but this year I am pretty chilled about it, maybe I am getting all grown up? Maybe not, maybe tomorrow morning when I wake up I will be as excited as can be. SP is taking me out tonight so I am excited about that. Yeah for husbands :)

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe,
Spreads o’er His body on the tree;
Then I am dead to all the globe,
And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Creature Comforts

If you have never seen this you should check it out, very funny. Creature Comforts

Its just another Manic Monday

Contrary to my title, its actually not that manic today but it is a bit boring. I am not a big fan of Monday's, it means the weekend is over and ahead of you is another five days before the weekend starts again. Just incase any of you didn't already know how many days are in the week and how the weekend fits in :)
Normally Monday's are treat days (coffee or chocolate) BUT due to blowing my budget this weekend it means no 'Monday Treat Day' for me. Monday isn't the only treat day, it all depends on if I feel like being cheered up, any day could be 'Treat Day' if I think its necessary. I guess 'Treat Week' might be more appropriate.

Married, Moved and MTS

Once again a poor show by myself in the writing of my blog, but as you can see by the title of this blog Married, Moved and MTS, I have been pretty busy. So its May and a lot has changed since my last blog. Scott and I got married, I moved up to Queenscliff (near Manly) and I now work for MTS. They say change is as good as a holiday so I should in fact feel like I have been on several holidays. BUT, funnily enough I don't.
Anyway, I have finally got back in to the world of blogging, I much prefer reading other blogs than writing my own as they are more often than not much more interesting than mine. Maybe I just need to stick at it and when I finally get internet at home maybe I can write more interesting exciting blogs - but I am not promising anything!!!!
Church was really good on Sunday night (no unfortunate accidents in the evening like at morning church - wink wink ab's wife) but it was still great. Dominic talked about purpose and how God's purpose is my purpose. God's purpose is to work EVERYTHING out according to his pleasure and purpose and to bring everything under Jesus and this is ALL for His own glory. WOW!! That we are chosen and have a purpose that before the creation of the world God loved us and predestined us to be his, thats pretty special and comforting to know that we are adopted by him. I was also really challenged to think about how I might invest in the future, how I could make a difference to the generations after I am gone by helping build a bigger family home for the generations of God's people to come. Very challenging stuff. You can download and listen to his talk at Christians in the Media
