God's Sovereignty and Human Freedom

Updated:

Every Christian will affirm that God is sovereign. This is a hugh comfort to Christians, it assures us that God is able to do what he promises to do. But one big question God's sovereignty raises is, How is God's sovereignty related to human freedom?

What do people think?

The phrase appears meaningless to me...

It is such a contradiction, haven't you heard people explain it in this way? I haven't heard people at our church say it like this but in London I did.

Anyhoo I was just reading about it in Chosen by God so I thought I would just put it out there ;(

I'm not sure I have heard that expression before. Regardless, it simply doesn't seem to mean anything. Parrallel lines never meet, here or in eternity.

Hey - you didn't have to delete it from 10K! It is still worth discussing!!

Just thought it didn't really make sense after thinking about it. You were right :)

OK i have revised the question a little bit - hope this makes more sense...

It's a great question - the classic question really. The bible affirms both propositions - that God is the absolute ruler over creation, and that human kind are "free agents", that is, we make real decisions.

In some way, the real decisions we make are included within God's sovereign plan, in such a way that everything works out according to His purpose, and yet we are still making real decisions.

I'm not sure there is an easy way to fit these two ideas together, except to affirm both of them.

:) Many hours blogging, too little sleep, migranes, and screaming boys never help with getting the things others never get ;)

Good to see England beat Ecuador last night. Beckham, though, was completely out of form.

Yeah it sure was good to see Haydn, they will need to play a little better if they are going to get any further. They seem to be just doing enough at the moment.

Come on England
