a day to treasure

On Saturday SP and I went to "a day to treasure"
It was organised by Oz FamilyLife and it was a seminar on marriage, we went with a couple from church.
Sp and I went at a fairly raw time for us, where we are learning lots of things about ourselves and about how to relate, it was an amazing day and it was actually at the ICMS where Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban got married. Hey - if it's good enough for Nic and Keith, it's good enough for SP and I ;)
The location was amazing, the speakers were real and honest, the sessions were helpful though sometimes hard, the time alone was tough, reflective and encouraging and the action page (where we take home things we will try to implement) was realistic and "do able".

There were six seminars:

1. Why we grow apart.
2. How to grow together.
3. Resolving Conflict.
4. Keeping the spark alive.
5. Harmony in your home.
6. Leaving a legacy.

I am so thankful that we were able to go to this so early on in our marriage, it was a blessing. We need to read through some of the booklet again but I rally enjoyed it and think it was a day well spent on learning through how we can both be serving each other in our marriage.

I might try and write down more of the content when I have more time.

Jen and I were given tickets to A Weekend to Remember (same thing but longer) as a wedding present.

We went when we'd been married for about 6 months. It was really great - I think those guys do a really great job. There should be loads more focus on the marriage and not just the wedding.

Good work Nixter - very responsible and sensible of you guys to do that. I am sure you will reap blessings...

Yeah Rodeo, they do a great job, I thought the speakers were wonderful not trying to pretend they had it all together but just honest in sharing struggles and ways they have/are learning to be more godly in marriage.

Thanks heaps Craig...

But I don't know what you are talking about - I take it that it is something for the womanfolk, rather than a general thing?

PS I am not blushing ;)

Doubtful I'd blush - it takes a lot to get me embarrassed :)

I think there should be more sex-stuff in church too. But I understand that it isn't at all helpful for those who aren't married - especially the guys (I say this from experience).

I can make anyone blush!

I'm not blushing, but I'm trying not to laugh too loud because I seem to have made everyone so uncomfortable.

We have some best (married) friends, and although we don't generally talk about sex, sometimes just mentioning stuff in general can make the womanfolk all start blushing.

It's a gift I have.

LOL I just think it's amusing this is happening on my blog - love it.. I agree though Ruth, I think it is good for married women to speak other women about it AND... men and women think about it VERY differently. At "a day to remember" what this post was originally about - tee hee - they give lists of the differences between men and women - quite amusing.. I should type them up one day. Ruth - please don't delete I think it's a good discussion.. Really though you do what you want ;)

We got some books to go along with the talks and they are really good stuff.

I got a little booklet thing to write notes etc in, it's cool SP and I are going to go through it again very soon. It's so much to take in and so we think we need to revisit. We didn't buy any books but they did a few recommendations - can't remember tham all though.

Ruth - I will type them up - tonight or tomorrow.

Here is a sneek peek 'girls speak sooner, have larger vocabularies, rarely demonstrate speech defects, exceed boys in languageabilities, and learn foreign languages more easily'.

Oh to be a girl...

By not telling me :D

it means he pressed 11111 instead of !!!!!!
Yep. People getting really excited and typing quickly often let go of the shift key and so get some '1's in there. Some people (me) take it to a bigger extreme and manually type out 'one' to exaggerate.

nixter bets that Rodeo does really care about not being able to come to girlie beading night - we get to talk about all kinds of fun stuff, make necklaces and eat cake and drink coffee.

RodeoClown: now really wants to come to a girlie beading night, even though boys are not so good at "detailed hand activity", such as stringing beads

I think the defining factor in number of comments made is how boring work is, combined with someone completely derailing the topic, but keeping it interesting and at least tangentially related to the original.

Oh, and someone needs to drive it.

Tue Jul 18, 04:05:00 PM
Blogger Nixter said...

Agreed Rodeo, I guess some just take off and others just quietly move to the bottom of the page - like most of mine... Boredom certainly factors and someone to comment back and forth with, unless you are Ruth who can just chat away by herself ;)

Well, I'm not Ruth, but I often catch myself talking/posting to myself.

It's a bit embarrassing sometimes when you realise you are doing it while walking down the street - you have to try and figure what you actually thought out loud...

I'm always running through possible scenarios in my head, and so I find that they escape sometimes. But on the positive side, I think I've covered nearly every possibility for a conversation with aliens/Germans/People from medieval times who have never seen electricity before/Jen.

Tue Jul 18, 04:20:00 PM
Blogger Nixter said...

wow Rodeo, there is an imagination - Like it!

I often do the same but not out loud. I find it amusing when I see people talking and what looks like giggling to themselves walking down the street. I often wonder what it is they are thinking about, obviously they are having conversations with aliens, Germans and people from medieval times - DOH!

I can chat to myself - and now that I have worked out how to email myself, life is complete!

Really, I am quite a quietish person in real life, unless I am in a chatty mood - then you can't shut me up!

Still, I do have quiet reflective moments....sometimes!

I think about blogging as I walk around, does that mean I'm addicted?

I do also think about praying for people, what AB might be up to, what I would call my next child, if God gives me one, and then I have some personal thoughts - that are rather more complex than those others.

Nixter - I would be happy to teach you to knit. I'm not a fast knitter - being a leftie makes it quite hard (another handist activity), but it's quite theraputic!
