I was pondering this topic after Hurrican Katrina. So many people said that it was God's judgement on New Orleans. People want Christians to explain where God was when that tragedy was going on. I had a moment of realization and it occurred to me:

God was working in Hurrican Katrina in many different ways. For some, it was righteous judgement for their sin. For others it was a means to take them home to glory. For some it was a wake up call - that life is short or that posessions are not as important as people. God was at work miraculously rescuing some, he was giving strength to those who were waiting for help, and to those who were working hard to help others.

It is not a simple answer, but God is definitely working through the disastrous times that seem to make no sense to us.

Tracy - you are totally right, thanks for that insight :)

God is sovereign and in control of ALL things what a comfort it is to know this, man and creation groan waiting for the new heaven and earth...
